Estimate only — irregular stone shapes vary more in coverage than uniform gravel.

How stone tonnage is calculated

We convert your area and depth into cubic yards, then multiply by the typical density of your chosen stone (1.3-1.5 tons per cubic yard). Irregular stone like fieldstone or flagstone can vary more than crushed gravel, so treat the result as a starting point and round up for a wall or path with gaps.

Frequently asked questions

Measure the wall's length and average height as "length" and "width" here, and use the wall's thickness as depth — then round up, since stacked stone has more air gaps than a flat bed.

This tool uses density presets for larger landscaping and wall stone (fieldstone, flagstone, river rock, limestone). For crushed stone driveway base or paths, see the gravel calculator.
