How shoelace length is determined

Lace length scales with your number of eyelet pairs — more eyelets means more lace travels back and forth across the shoe. Straight (bar) lacing and loop-back styles use noticeably more lace than standard criss-cross for the same eyelet count, since the lace travels a longer path per row.

Frequently asked questions

Count the rows of eyelet holes on just one side of the shoe, from bottom to top — most sneakers have 5-7 pairs, while boots often have 6-10.

If you like extra lace to double-knot or wrap around the ankle, round up to the next standard retail length rather than the exact calculated minimum.
