Each panel runs the full slope length from eave to ridge. We divide the eave length by the panel's coverage width (the exposed width after the side lap, usually 36 in / 3 ft) to get panels across one side, add the waste allowance, round up, and multiply by the number of roof sides. Total linear feet is panels times slope length, and squares covered is the plan area divided by 100.
Coverage width is not the same as the panel's overall width — ribbed and standing-seam panels overlap at the seam, so a 39-inch sheet may only cover 36 inches. Order panels to the exact slope length if the run is under about 24 feet; longer roofs use two panels with an end lap, which adds material.
Most exposed-fastener and standing-seam panels cover 36 inches (3 feet) after the side lap, though the raw sheet is a few inches wider. Always size from the coverage width, not the sheet width.
If the slope is under about 24 feet, order single panels cut to length. Longer slopes need an end lap between two panels, which adds 6–12 inches of overlap per joint.
Ridge cap, eave and rake trim, sidewall and endwall flashing, foam or metal closures, and screws or clips. Those are priced separately from the field panels.
