How stepped concrete volume is calculated

A solid concrete staircase has a stepped cross-section — each step is a smaller rectangle stacked on the one below it. Cross-sectional area works out to riser × tread × steps × (steps + 1) ÷ 2, which we multiply by stair width for total volume. This doesn't include a separate footing below the stairs — add that with the concrete calculator's footing mode if your design calls for one.
